The Black Box
TYPE OF PERFORMANCE: Street Theatre, Installation (Static)
FORMAT AND OPERATION: A typical Black Box show operates in two ways. A cast of 6 actors perform in front of a darkened booth containing an audience of one. You can view the show from inside and/or the outside. Black Box Shows are Non-Verbal.
RUNNING TIME: 5 minutes per show, 1 minute turnaround, up to 3 hours a day (with break)
SET UP/STRIKE TIME: 1 hour (minimum) set up/ strike
FURTHER DETAILS:
- The Box is flat packed and fully mobile and can be easily moved from a storage space and set up within an hour (depending on distance between van/storage and site)
- A gazebo is used to cover the box and performance area in bad weather.
- We would require an outside performance space of 3 meters by 6 metres preferably with passing trade.
- Positioned the gazebo against a building, fence or wall on one side is ideal so the ‘outside’ space and audience can be easily managed by the Stage Manager (additional FOH staff maybe requested if the space is open around the whole Box/gazebo to manage the audience).
- A level, grass or concrete surface is preferred (stage weights need to be provided if there is nowhere to anchor the gazebo)
- Performer sight lines are normally marked on the ground with chalk or chalk spray (non-permanent)
- On occasion we may require 13amp power supply.
- Water and Refreshments are required between performance slots.
